Ugh. I'm facing the prospect of having to interview for full time jobs again soon. For one possible career path -- do my office clothes still fit? For another, I have to untangle the costumery advice. Women are not supposed to wear pantsuits unless they're executives (and I DO imagine that uppitiness in that regard costs you) but at least one person I know told me while I was science-bound that that probably applies to PhDs too. So if I interview for an academic job, with my terminal yet not PhD degree...do I need a suit? Do I need a pantsuit?

I've never owned a suit.

I look awesome in a pantsuit.

So confusing.

P.S. Since studies show that, for instance, people say a piece of writing is better if it has "John" at the top than "Joan"...not to mention the loss of advancement and seniority should a career woman take maternity leave...I don't think pantyhose are the only factor in the wage gap! Although I do loathe them utterly and refuse to wear 'em.
